Important events and developments in our history:

 

1958 Surveyed the community's need for Homemaker Service and presented the findings to the Lincoln Community Council.

1959 Established a plan for charging fees for casework services.

Received a grant to purchase land at 1133 'H' Street from the Woods Charitable Fund.

Sold the property at 228 South 10th Street to Nathan Gold's Mid-Town Development Company for $40,000.

Ground breaking and beginning of excavation at 1133 'H' Street.

1960 Established a plan for the purchase of shoes for needy children.

Dedication of the new building and open house at 1133 'H' Street.

Named a committee to report the community's attitude concerning unwed mothers attending elementary, junior and senior schools.
1961 Surveyed the need for free school lunches for needy children.

1969 Started developmental child care program.

1972 Initiated first day care home training program in Nebraska, third in the nation.

1974 Adopted Open Door Health Advocacy Center which provided referrals for free, or reduced cost health care to low-income persons.

Adopted Medical Transportation Program to provide transportation to health-related appointments for the elderly and disabled.
1975 Began sponsoring the Child Care Food Program, offering child care providers consultation, training and reimbursements to ensure nutritious meals and snacks are offered to children.

1977 Began School's Out before and after school child care program in Lincoln elementary schools.

1978 Started WIC nutrition program.
