Service Volunteer Program
Job Title: Family-Centered Support Volunteer
Program Area: Welcome Baby
Supervision By: Sherri Beldin, Family Support Specialist
General Description:
Family Centered Support Volunteers are responsible for assisting
parents who are experiencing stress in their lives. Family
Service utilizes our volunteers to provide support and encouragement
to families in an effort to involve the community in reducing
risk factors, which may contribute to child abuse and neglect.
Family Centered Support Volunteers must meet the following
criteria:
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Must complete 6 hours
of pre-service training
- Make a 6-month commitment to the
program
Specific Tasks:
- Develop a friendship with assigned parent. Provide support,
guidance and role modeling to that specific individual.
One hour of contact per week is recommended. Phone calls
between
visits are always appreciated.
- Be part of any team working
with the family.
- Maintain contact with program staff at
Family Service.
- Maintain documentation of visits and
provide Family Service with monthly summaries of contact
hours.
- Engage is activities sponsored or recommended
by Family Service.
Skills Needed:
- Ability to act independently as a supportive role model.
- Ability
to serve as a positive role model for parents and children.
- Ability to follow licensing rules and regulations as provided
by Family Service.
Time Required:
- Two-hour new volunteer agency
orientation (pre-service)
- Four-hour- Family Centered Support
Training (pre-service)
- Minimum of one hour of client contact
monthly.
