Service Volunteer Program
The Welcome Baby Program is designed
to help prevent abuse and neglect in families. Welcome Baby is a program that
matches up volunteers with new parents to provide
the parents with the following benefits:
- A knowledgeable support person in their
life, who can listen and reassure them.
- A friend who can provide adult
conversation and diversion from daily demands.
- A friend
to help make the transition from expectant person(s) to
new parenthood.
- A guide to help them make appropriate community
contacts.
The role of an intern/volunteer is to provide support and
encouragement as our mothers adjust to the joys and demands
of parenting. A commitment of
6 – 12
months is requested and we recommend volunteers spend a minimum of one
hour a week with their Welcome Baby mother and family. Volunteer training
is required.
