Welcome Baby
Welcome Baby is a home-based program designed to support
new parents during the pre-natal and early infancy years.
The Welcome Baby's aim is to enhance parenting skills, generate
community networking and provide knowledge, information and
support to new parents and their families.
How Do We Get Started?
Interested mothers, fathers, and caregivers can
self refer or can be referred from other agencies. The Welcome
Baby specialist will contact the caregivers to set up the
initial home visit.
Welcome Baby provides:
- Support through the pregnancy and the next several
months.
- Home-based service.
- One on one direct contact.
- Weekly pone contact.
- Community resources.
- Quarterly events.
New families have special needs. Being pregnant and becoming
a parent can raise a lot of questions as you prepare for
birth or an adoption. Even after the baby is born, parents
may find there are many rewards and demands that come with
parenthood. These "ups and downs" that new parents
or caregivers may feel are very normal. The Welcome Baby
program recognizes
that pregnancy and birth of the baby is an important and
eventful time. Welcome Baby encourages and assists new
families in getting off to the best start possible.
We offer friendship, encouragement, and information about:
- Adjusting to parenthood.
- Baby's development.
- Safety in the home.
- Choosing childcare.
- Having fun with your baby.
Welcome Baby's Goals
- To prevent child abuse and neglect through individual
and family coping skills.
- To increase healthy parenting skills through role modeling,
mentoring, and educational resources.
- To provide education about pregnancy, as well as infant
and child development.
- To reduce isolation by providing home-based services
and community resources.
- To provide support and encouragement to the infant's
primary caregiver.
- To decrease the amount of stress perceived by caregivers
over time.
