WIC (Women, Infants and Children)
What is WIC?
The Nebraska Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program provides free food and nutrition information to help keep pregnant women, infants and children under five healthy and strong.
Who is Eligible for WIC?
You are eligible if you:
- Live in Nebraska.
- Are a pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding woman, an infant or child under 5 years of age.
- Have a nutritional risk.
- Have a household income that is less than or equal to the income guidelines (below) under Child Care Food Program.
- You are automatically income eligible for WIC if you currently receive ADF, Food Stamps, Kids Connection or Medicaid.
- Fathers, guardians or foster parents may apply for WIC for their children.

How Do I Apply for WIC?
To set up an appointment, call Family Service WIC Program at 441-8655. Staff will tell you what to bring to your appointment.
At your appointment, a WIC nutritionist and nurse will check your diet and review your health history.
If you are eligible, you will receive nutrition information and counseling, referrals to other services and checks to buy foods such as:
- fresh fruits & vegetables
- whole wheat bread or brown rice
- dried or canned beans
- milk
- cereal
- fruit juice
- peanut butter
- cheese
- eggs
- tuna or salmon
- infant formula
- baby food
These foods help keep pregnant and breastfeeding women, babies and children healthy and strong.
How Does WIC Work?
The WIC staff is a caring team of experts who provide:
- Counseling on how to use WIC foods to improve health.
- Checks to buy foods that help keep you healthy and strong.
- Immunization screening and referrals
- Discussions on food shopping, recipes, taking care of babies and how to breast feed.
- Information on good eating during pregnancy and breastfeeding and how to feed your child.
- Referrals to doctors, health centers and clinics, dentists, and programs like Food Stamps, ADF, and Medicaid.
